THE HAZI BROS. [‘ha:zi, Hungarian for home, homemade] are internationally known for the band’s compositions, lyrics and the unique voices of the protagonists. Founded in 2005 in Budapest/Hungary by two German musicians, the band has been a touring band from the start. They have repeatedly performed in Hungary, Czech Republic, Latvia, Estinia, Turkey, Germany, Serbia and the United States. About 80% of the band’s repertoire is original.

Due to public request, the band started to record the songs that are mostly original ones, in 2007. One year later they published their first album, “Culture to the People!” digitally. In 2010 they published their second album, “The Plum Harvest Was Bad Last Year;” the band’s third album, “Kant Studies,” was released in 2015. Their last album, “Lehmann Tapes: The Empire Files” was recorded back in Hungary and published in 2025.

Band members:

Heiko Lehmann (guitar, bass, voice) had been writing songs for many years but never had the proper band for these songs until he co-founded THE HAZI BROS. during a tour in Hungary. Lehmann had been playing music professionally since 1988 in different bands ranging from world music to medieval. He’s also a producer, actor, translator, playwright and writer.

Hardy Reich (mandolin, voice) has developed a large repertoire of world, Irish and old-time American styles over the years. In 1985 he co-founded Jewish-music ensemble AUFWIND in East Berlin; in 1988 he invited Heiko Lehmann to be the band’s upright bass player. Lehmann stayed with the band until 1994 and invited Reich to become a HAZI BROTHER in 2006.

Ben Lehmann (bass, guitar, bass clarinet, back-up vocals) has been with the band since 2005. He’s a sought-after musician in Berlin’s young music scene and wrote most of the songs for his first band, THE LONESOME WALKERS. Ben plays many styles, notably jazz, rock and blues, and he rehearses with at least six different bands. He’s studied jazz at the Saarbruecken Conservatory and is a band member of Christof Thewes Quartett.

Flo Seefeldt (cl, back-up vocals) is a well-known jazz musician playing countless instruments. He joined The Házi Bros. in 2024 and is a perfect match for the band! Whenever he’s available he’s on stage with us.
